A drunk female tourist has sparked outrage after stripping off and climbing on to a Buddhist shrine before chanting, ranting and swearing with a can of beer in hand.

Farah Haque, 28, was caught on camera as she clambered up to the religious site in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, yesterday evening.

She shouted abuse at passersby before police came to escort her to the nearby Suan Prung Psychiatric Hospital to sober up before being assessed by doctors.

In the clip Ms Haque can be seen perched naked on a handrail while waving her arms wildly in the air and swigging from a can of Chang beer.

She repeatedly shouts ‘chok dee motherf***ers’ – chok dee meaning ‘cheers’ in Thai – and can be heard chanting Allahu Akbar.

Farah, originally from Bangladesh, then continues her incoherent foul-mouthed rant as passersby attempt to talk her down.

She spouts ‘wh**es the whole lot of you’, ‘get the f*** out of here you f***ing paedophile’ and ‘ugly c***’.

Police eventually arrived to detain Ms Haque and escorted her to the nearby Suan Prung Psychiatric Hospital to sober up before being assessed by doctors.

Officers said she had initially arrived as a tourist but had been working as an English teacher since April.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Somkit Phusod from Chaing Mai police station said Ms Haque had been staying at a hostel in the city.

He said: ‘We suspected that she was quite drunk, she could not control herself and she was causing a terrible scene.

‘The first thing we did was take her to the hospital to rest. When she is sober the doctors will check her psychological state.’

Officers said Ms Haque had also been seen stumbling around while drunk the night before.

Lt Col Somkit added: ‘The correct procedure is for psychological reports to be produced which will help us when considering any charges or fines.

‘We are informing her embassy and acquaintances in Thailand.’
