‘Drunk’ woman falls asleep on a road and narrowly avoids being killed by a passing car

Jeannette Murillo was arrested on Saturday after being found lying on the side of the road by Sgt. Charlie Scott. She is pictured in a mugshot taken on June 2

A ‘drunk’ woman who narrowly avoided being run over by a car after falling asleep on a road early on Saturday morning has been pictured for the first time in a police mug shot.

Dashcam footage from a police car shows the vehicle in front slamming on its brake lights and swerving to one side to avoid Jeanette Murillo on FM1093 in Fulshear, near Houston.

Sgt. Charlie Scott then gets out of his car and beckons Murillo away from the road before arresting her for public intoxication.

The officer was seen as he communicated with Murillow and checked to see if she was still breathing.

Before long, he grabbed her hand and helped her off of the road. It’s unclear what the two were saying, as dashcam released by the department does not have audio.

Fulshear Police Department said Murillo – wearing a blue shirt and black pants – had ‘bedded down’ on the road after getting her car stuck in a ditch.

When Murillow finally stood up, she stumbled over and nearly tumbled into a ditch nearby.

Fulshear Police said a car believed to belong to the woman was found nearly 200 yards from where she was found.

Scott added that there were several open alcohol containers inside the vehicle.

Police said the incident was an ‘unfortunate mistake’ that ‘could have ended tragically and the ride could have been to the morgue.’

The cops’ Facebook post read: ‘Being in the wrong place at the right time is exactly what happened during the early morning hours over the weekend along FM 1093.’

It said further: ‘We all make mistakes, however, this mistake almost cost this young woman her life.’

It seems Scott initially believed Murillow’s body was an object when he saw another vehicle in front of him swerving over into the middle of the road.

‘Thankfully, Sergeant Scott happened to be on patrol at the right time and in the right place.

‘Sergeant Scott immediately realized that “the object” in the road was a person and quickly stopped to render aid.’

Murillow was jailed and charged with public intoxication as a result.
