Dua Lipa gets roasted over her stripped-down Tiny Desk performance: ‘This hurt my ears’

Dua Lipa was roasted by fans after she performed a stripped-down version of four of her dance hits for an NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

The 29-year-old Brit sang Training Season, These Walls, Happy For You and Houdini for the assembled guests at the public radio network’s New York City offices.

This was Lipa’s second Tiny Desk performance. She first gave her songs the acoustic treatment during the pandemic in 2020 in what was then called Tiny Desk (Home) Concert.

Fans were torn about the quality of her performance, but many fell on the side of criticism with one person declaring very dramatically, ‘This hurt my ears.’

Another person added, ‘She doesn’t have the type of music that works well with tiny desk tbh, just doesn’t fit.’

Many of the commenters simply settled for calling her performance mid, and blaming it on the acoustic version of the songs.

‘Can everyone see how mid she is now?,’ one person wrote, while another said, ‘sounds terrible.’

Someone who had never listened to Dua commented, ‘For the longest time I wondered if Dua Lipa could actually sing or if it was all just engineering. Guess I’ll watch this and find out.’

But other people weren’t as open. ‘It’s artists like this that ruined tiny desk,’ someone said.

‘Dua Lipa hass no talent. Period,’ one person ruthlessly wrote while another simply said, ‘We didn’t need this.’

Not everyone was displeased with Dua’s stripped down sound.

‘It’s cool to see her like this,’ one fan wrote, while another very aptly said, ‘So nice to hear actual singers with real control and talent.’

The Levitating hitmaker – who enjoyed a night on the town with martinis – wore a black and white pinstriped, strapless long dress that was belted at the waist.

She pulled her raven hair back into a sleek updo and accessorized with a heavy silver link necklace, small hoop earrings and a bracelet.

That Tiny Desk show garnered more than 130 million views and remains the most-viewed in Tiny Desk’s history.

The new Tiny Desk concert featured songs off her 2024 album Radical Optimism.

‘I’ve always wanted to come down and be by the desk,’ Lipa said in between songs.

‘I’ve loved watching Tiny Desks, and I love the way that artists come in and reimagine their songs and their music, and it’s always really inspiring.’
