She’s not often thought of as someone to make a fashion statement – and yet the Duchess of Edinburgh seemed to pull out all the stops when attending today’s Easter Sunday service alongside other royals.
Mother-of-two Sophie, 58, commanded attention in a cream Philip Treacy hat, which boasted a wide brim and an eye-catching height as she arrived at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
She teamed her statement headpiece with a pink Catherine Walker coat and cream knee-high boots, as well as a matching clutch bag.
Attending the royal event alongside her husband Prince Edward, 59, and their 15-year-old son James, Earl of Wessex, Sophie looked effortlessly elegant for her first appearance at the annual service since gaining the title of Duchess of Edinburgh.
It’s unclear why Sophie and Edward’s daughter Lady Louise, 19, wasn’t at today’s occasion.

Edward and Sophie, previously the Countess and Earl of Wessex, were given their new titles in February, some six months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.
Today’s service will likely be bittersweet for members of the Firm, as it marks the first without the late Queen – and the second anniversary of the death of Prince Philip.
Mother-of-two Sophie was particularly close to the late monarch, with whom she spoke daily, and called ‘Mama’.
Other royals making an appearance in their Sunday best today include the Prince and Princess of Wales, who brought their children Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, to the event.
Also in attendance were the Tindalls, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and Princess Anne, who was accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence.
Following in the footsteps of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, who always held Easter Court at her beloved Berkshire residence, Charles was accompanied by his wife, the Queen Consort, today.
A staple in the royal calendar, last year’s event saw the now-Prince and Princess of Wales attend in the spring sunshine with their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The Princess of Wales and the Queen Consort both opted for royal blues as their outfit of choice for Easter Sunday, with the mother-of-three arriving hand-in-hand with her youngest son Prince Louis, who was joining the family at the service for the first time.

It is likely to be a moving moment for the royal family, with the 15th century chapel being the late Queen’s final resting place and the Easter Sunday service the first to take place since her death (Zara and Mike Tindall are pictured on Sunday with their family)
He held onto his mother’s hand and glanced seriously at the waiting media, while the Princess offered a brief smile and a greeting.
While the Sunday service has long been a tradition for the royals, it is thought that Easter Sunday may be slightly different for the family now that Charles is King.
According to reports, the monarch may host a less formal gathering than his mother, who was believed to have some very strict dinner rules in place.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun that there is one specific dinner rule of the late Queen’s that Charles might choose to relax this weekend.
She said: ‘They will all have dinner together but not the young children – they will eat in the nursery dining room.
‘The Queen always said until they could hold a knife and fork properly they could not eat at the table, but Charles might have relaxed that rule a bit. But dinner is only for grown-ups.’
Sophie’s appearance today follows the royal being snapped in Windsor yesterday, where she went for a carriage ride.
The 58-year-old shared a love of the sport with her late father-in-law, Prince Philip, who took it up in his fifties.
Now, the Duchess is sometimes spotted driving one of Philip’s carriages in Windsor, which is near the Edinburgh’s Bagshot family home.
