EA Sports announces it will REMOVE the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from hit video game FIFA 22 as the sporting world continues to shun the national following their invasion of Ukraine

EA Sports has revealed that it is in the process of removing the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from FIFA 22.
A statement from EA Sports added that the company ‘stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people’ after the country was invaded by Russia.
The full statement from EA Sports read: ‘EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine.
‘In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has initiated processes to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online. We’re also actively evaluating related changes to other areas of our games.
‘We will keep our communities up to date on any actions taken, and thank players for their patience as we work through these updates.’
On Wednesday Russia stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s major cities, with officials in Mariupol saying that a ‘full-scale genocide was underway’.
Russia unleashed a 15-hour artillery barrage, with Kharkiv also facing heavy bombardment.
Mariupol, located in the south of Ukraine on the Black Sea, has been surrounded by Russian forces and struck by artillery in an apparent attempt to bomb the city into submission.

EA Sports have frequently acted quickly to remove individuals from the game when they have been involved in high-profile incidents, such as Benjamin Mendy, Marc Overmars and Mason Greenwood.
There are currently only three Russian clubs on the game – CSKA Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow and Spartak Moscow.
CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow will be removed from the game along with Lokomotiv Moscow
Legendary former Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Lev Yashin, who played for USSR, is available as an icon on Ultimate Team, but it remains to be seen whether he will be removed from the game.
EA Sports has also removed the Russia and Belarus teams from its NHL 22 game.
This week Russia’s national team and clubs were suspended from FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice.
