Eammon and Ruth hosted presented This Morning’s Friday show from 2006 up until 2020 when they were replaced by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

And the broadcasting stalwart was asked by Steph whether he and Ruth could join forces again, to which he responded: ‘That’s a very good question.

‘We’d be open to it, although Ruth is very busy with her designing range on QVC, she’s got her other job on Loose Women, we’re very busy….

‘Who knows, but I think we’d be open to suggestions, yes.’

Asked whether he misses daytime TV, Eamonn said: ‘No, not at all. I really am excited with the whole breaking news environment and being involved in that…

‘It’s a tremendous privilege to be involved in something you want to do. They say if you do something you love you never work a day in your life and it’s nice to be appreciated.

‘It’s nice to be with people who want you to be there and it’s nice to feel you’re contributing.’

Eamonn also revealed he now gets up at 2.30am for his role anchoring GB News Breakfast, admitting: ‘It’s the earliest I’ve ever had to get up.’

But he’s enjoying his new job and said: ‘The buzz of being involved in news – however horrendous – I’d rather be part of it, I’d rather be reporting on it.

‘I’d rather be talking to people who are influential in what’s going on, than being an observer on the outside.’

The presenter was on Steph’s Packed Lunch to highlight Shingles Awareness Week and discuss his experience of having shingles.

Eamonn revealed how he’s unable to look at his son’s 2018 wedding photos as it’s a reminder of the illness.

He said: ‘My eldest son was getting married… And then my face was like this, it was absolutely awful. I had to be in all the pictures, I’m the father of the groom…

‘To this day, Steph, I can’t look at Declan and Jenny’s wedding pictures because I feel I’ve spoilt them.’

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
