Early birds push up orders for Christmas turkeys by a fifth compared to this time last year, according to supermarket sales figures

- Order bookings opened on September 26, and there were 7,000 orders that day
- The figures, up 16 per cent on last year, have been repeated at Ocado
Most of us are still thinking about getting prepared for Halloween and Bonfire Night.
But thousands of people have already got their Christmas sorted. Over the past fortnight, Waitrose has seen 32,000 customers place orders for their turkey, trimmings and drinks, and book delivery slots for the days before December 25.
The supermarket’s festive order bookings opened on September 26, and there were 7,000 orders on that day alone.

The figures, up 16 per cent on last year, have been repeated at Ocado, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons. Tesco and Asda have yet to open their delivery slots.
Dominic Jones, of Waitrose, said: ‘Online shoppers are more organised than ever, and we’re noting a trend for customers to reserve a slot now with some drinks, then amend their basket nearer to the big day.’
