Earthquake magnitude 4.0 hits Christchurch in New Zealand 

• An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 has hit near Christchurch, New Zealand
• The quake struck 15kilometres to the northeast of the city on Tuesday at 1.22pm
• Tremors from the earthquake were felt by the residents of several city suburbs

An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 has struck Christchurch in New Zealand.

The quake hit at 1.22pm, 15kilometres northeast of the city centre.

Residents of the city reported feeling tremors in Linwood, Hornby, Port Hills and at Burwood Hospital.
