Taking to Instagram to announce the exciting news, Rob wrote: ‘Yet ANOTHER dream job alert. My people know that ST [Star Trek] is my life, I can pretty much mouth along to every episode of every trek.

‘So to be joining the Trek universe is one of, if not the greatest moment of my professional life.

‘Also, I met @jonathansfrakes this morning for the second time. AND he knew my name!

‘I’m joining the most spectacular cast @omarihardwickofficial @kaceykadoodles @thesamrichardson @svenruygrok @humberly and of course, @michelleyeoh_official Making it so!’

In a second post, Rob shared the trailer of the movie and said he is ‘proud’ to be a part of it.

He wrote: ‘I’ve been a fan of Trek since I was old enough to comprehend it. I’m a hard TNG fan with a close second ToS movies. Star Trek is the guide for morality, a future sign posted beyond the incredibly fallible and awful present.

‘So proud to be part of this. With this incredible group of humans. The fire starter for a whole new world of trek.’

Sean left EastEnders in 2009 after three years, and then returned to Walford in 2021.

He arrived shortly after Jean (Gillian Wright) contacted him and asked for help over Stacey’s (Lacey Turner) new wife Eve (Heather Peace).

It was a brief comeback, something Rob hopes will happen again in the future when he visits the UK from his home in LA.

He previously said: ‘Earlier this year I was able to visit my family in the UK for the first time in years thanks to the global pandemic and a thankfully difficult work schedule, and while I was packing my bags I sent Kate Oates [EastEnders boss] an email.

‘It was simple really, I live in LA and when conditions allow I’ll try and see my family every year – or more if I can – so I though why wouldn’t Sean do that. Pop in for a cuppa?

‘So I said to Kate, I’m in London for one day, let’s write a scene and I’ll swing by in the morning and we can do it, better than that, every time I’m in the UK, if I can, Let’s do it again and she rallied the troops and made it happen.’
