Eastenders pregnant Abi Branning attends own funeral

The Christmas Day episode of EastEnders ended in tragedy when both Abigail and Lauren Branning fell off the Queen Vic’s roof.

The pregnant teenager was then pronounced brain-stem dead on the BBC soap in heartbreaking scenes, that later saw her baby delivered in a premature birth.

Abi’s father Max has been left devastated at the news his youngest daughter has ‘zero chance of regaining consciousness’, but actress Lorna Fitzgerald has been pictured at the filming of her own funeral, leaving us to question – is she really dead?

The young actress was among her co-stars as the cast of EastEnders got to work on yet more tragic scenes following the soap’s explosive Christmas period.

Viewers are waiting on tenterhooks to see whether Abi will survive her tragic ordeal that saw her plummet to the ground from the roof of the Queen Vic with her sister Lauren Branning (played by Jacqueline Jossa), as they saved their father Max (Jake Wood) from committing suicide in the dramatic Christmas Day scenes.

While Abi’s fate appeared to revealed, after she was branded brain-stem dead by doctors who told he father she will not survive her injuries, Lorna’s appearance at filming for Abi’s funeral will no doubt spark confusion among fans.

It’s not yet known whether the character could be back from the dead or be part of great lengths to keep the plot a secret and acting as a decoy.

Abi’s onscreen sister Lauren was seen attending the funeral with a walking stick, after surviving the accident. Viewers saw her wake up in hospital to greet her baby son, despite previously bleeding out on the operating table after being rushed to hospital.

There’s been plenty of rumours that these scenes are set to be some of the last for actress Jacqueline who plays Lauren, but this is yet to be confirmed.

A spokesperson for BBC told MailOnline: ‘We’re not going to comment on storylines, as we don’t want to spoil it for viewers.’

Meanwhile, the sisters’ father Max is seen in the shots looking downcast after being held responsible for his daughter’s deaths.

Max had suffered a tumultuous few months on the soap, after embarking on a plan to get revenge after being wrongfully accused of Lucy Beale’s murder.

He tried to get his comeuppance again with Jane and Steven Beale as well as James Willmott-Brown in a risky construction scheme.

The plot involved a plan to knock down the Square and replace it with luxury apartment blocks.

He then attempted to strangle Ian Beale with Christmas lights, but was interrupted when his daughter Lauren walked in, causing a drift between them and his other daughter Abi.

Abi’s uncle Jack attended the funeral to bury his young niece just a year after his wife and sister-in-law died in the soup.

There was no sign of the girls’ mum Tanya, who made a brief return over Christmas to expose Max and his sordid affairs.

Viewers were confused when their mother disappeared from the show despite her daughters being in intensive care following their fall.
