EastEnders fans were surprised during Monday night’s episode as it was revealed Peter Beale still gets an allowance from his father Ian.

The Walford resident will be turning 27 in December and does various jobs around Albert Square while still living at home. 

But that hasn’t stopped Ian from giving his adult son some extra pocket money as viewers saw Peter ask his dad to reinstate his allowance after the floundering businessman already told Max Branning he has the money to pay him.

Peter asked: ‘So if you’re flush, can you start paying my allowance again?’

Ian said: ‘I can’t pay your allowance, I’ve had to borrow the money to repay Max’. 

Later in the episode, Peter found out that Ian had secretly remortgaged his mother Kathy’s cafe to get the money.

The pair locked horns with Ian using the allowance as blackmail, saying: ‘Why are you always trying to cause trouble?

Viewers took to social media to express their shock that someone of Peter’s age could still be getting an allowance from his parents.

One fan wrote: ‘Peter getting an allowance when he’s nearing 30? You can’t make it up.’

Peter Beale was first introduced to the soap in 1993 and has been played by seven actors, with Dayle Hudson currently inhabiting the role.

The character has a four-year-old son of his own called Louie who he had with ex Lauren Branning, played by Jacqueline Jossa.
