A high-speed police chase in two allegedly stolen cars has led to the arrest of seven people in Melbourne.

Around 2am on Friday patrolling officers spotted a white BMW with allegedly stolen plates travelling at high speed on the Monash Freeway at Dandenong.

Police helicopter support was called in to track the luxury vehicle, following it to Narre Warren where an allegedly stolen grey Mercedes engaged in the pursuit and was clocked reaching speeds up to 150km/h.

A short time later, the BMW was dumped in Mullum Mullum Tunnel, with the driver and passengers fleeing into the Mercedes.

It is alleged both vehicles were recently stolen in aggravated burglaries.

Police deployed stop-sticks – specially designed spike kits designed to penetrate tyres and deflate them within 20 to 30 seconds- at Heidelberg. 

As the car travelled through the roadblock, two wheels were taken out but the vehicle didn’t stop.

The chase eventually came to an end on the Eastern Fwy in Kew, with police arresting the seven occupants of the Mercedes.

Footage shows multiple police cars blocking off the freeway, which was shut for a few hours but has since been reopened. 

No one was injured during the incident and police say the car’s occupants are assisting them with their enquiries.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and allow for extra travel time on Friday morning.
