Eastern Michigan quarterback Mike Glass III compounded a heart-breaking loss to Pittsburgh in Thursday’s Quick Lane Bowl by getting ejected with 10 seconds remaining for punching a pair of Panthers defenders and inadvertently grazing an official who was trying to break up the skirmish.

Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton said Glass, a senior, was in ‘tears in the locker room’ following his final college game – a 34-30 loss in Detroit.

With the outcome still hanging in the balance on the Eagles’ 40-yard line, Glass had an opportunity for one last play following a third-down incompletion.

Several small scuffles ensued, but the officials were able to maintain control for Eastern Michigan’s final offensive possession – an interception from Glass’s backup, Preston Hutchinson.

‘I let God and my family down,’ Glass wrote on Twitter following the game.

Glass did not play terribly, completing 28 of 50 attempts for 311 yards, two touchdowns and 83 rushing yards to go with one interception. He even surpassed Charlie Batch’s single-season record for yards and touchdowns, which had stood since 1997.

And as if Glass’s outburst wasn’t bad enough, Eagles cornerback Kevin McGill was ejected earlier for unsportsmanlike conduct for allegedly spitting at an opponent.

‘Both those guys are incredibly competitive, and they both have put so much into this. This was their last opportunity, and there is absolutely no excuse for any of that,’ Creighton said. ‘They’re embarrassed by it. They apologized to the team. I’m embarrassed. I apologize to anybody who was watching it and a part of it. Their emotions got the best of both of them.’
