EasyJet flight to Liverpool is forced to divert to Venice after ‘swearing and shouting’ woman hits a man over the head with her bag
- A passenger caused chaos on Wednesday’s flight from Turkey to Liverpool
- The plane was diverted to Venice, where it was met by Italian police
An easyJet flight to Liverpool was forced to divert to Venice after a ‘swearing and shouting’ woman reportedly hit a man over the head with her bag.
A female passenger caused so much chaos on the 9.55pm flight from Dalaman in Turkey to Liverpool’s John Lennon airport on Wednesday that the plane had to make an emergency landing.
Witness Neil Houlker said the woman had ‘quite obviously been drinking’ when she boarded the flight and said she was ‘shouting, swearing and drinking’ after take-off.
When the crew announced the plane was to be diverted to Venice, the woman’s companion denied involvement and she hit him over the head with a carrier bag. It is unknown if the bag was full.
On landing, three people were removed from the plane by police before it took off again, arriving at its original destination in Liverpool around two and a half hours late.

Neil, 52, told the Liverpool Echo: ‘This lady boarded the plane and was shouting ‘where’s row 31’, she had quite obviously been drinking.
‘We were at the front of the plane and they were at the back and the cabin crew had to keep coming to speak to them. It was just general disruption, shouting, swearing and drinking.
‘The pilot had to do an announcement to say they would not tolerate any disruption.’
A bottle of vodka was also confiscated from the woman, Neil added.
The plane was forced to make an emergency landing and was met by Italian police.
Some passengers claimed two men and a woman were arrested but this has not been confirmed
EasyJet said in a statement: ‘easyJet can confirm that flight EZY3406 from Dalaman to Liverpool on 3 October diverted to Venice where the aircraft was met by police due to three passengers behaving disruptively onboard.

‘The flight then continued to Liverpool once the passengers were removed.
‘easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.
‘Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard.
‘The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.
