The singer, 30, appeared on the BBC One show on Wednesday night to promote his new song Bad Habits.
He sat down with presenters Alex, 44, and Ronan Keating, 44, where he corrected the female presenter when she claimed he had eight million people attend his tour, when in fact it was nine million.
Eek! Ed Sheeran, 30, awkwardly corrected presenter Alex Jones, 44, on the One Show after she made several errors about his career on Wednesday
The Shape of You singer sat on the sofas with the presenters and discussed his career achievements before taking to the stage for a performance of his new song.
Alex began the interview by presenting Ed with a series of statistics about his career, which she described as ‘pretty off the scale’.
‘Apparently you were artist of the decade last year, yeah?’ she said.
The hit maker replied: ‘Err, yeah, yeah in England, well in the UK.’
Awkward: Ed sat down with Alex and Ronan Keating, 44, where he corrected the female presenter when she claimed he had 8million people attend his tour, when in fact it was 9million
To his comment, Alex told him ‘don’t play it down’ before continuing: ‘The most attended tour, apparently 8million people came to see you on tour.’
Again, Ed cut across Alex and said with a smile: ‘Nine, but…’ Ronan could also be heard in the background providing the correct figure.
After being told she had got it wrong, Alex corrected herself and said: ‘Nine, nine, ok. Most songs in the last album reached the top 20?
Ed replied: ‘Yeah well that was kind of like a mistake of like the way they ordered the chart, anyway I’ll let you carry on, thank you.’
Seeing the funny side, Alex said: ‘I mean don’t spoil it we’re on a roll here.’
Correction: Ed cut off Alex to explain that she had got some of her facts wrong, including the fact nearly all his songs from his last album reach the top 20
The conversation then moved on to discuss whether the singer still feels a buzz when he hears his songs played on the radio.
He said: ‘Now especially. There was a point in my career where I didn’t and I think that’s dangerous.
‘Ronan knows, being a musician as your job is such a glorious thing it’s like your hobby that is also your job and I essentially lost sight of that because everything was going on and I was touring and doing all of that.
‘I think its when I stepped back from it and had 18 months off, became a dad, didn’t release music for a long time I’m not coming back into it with such appreciation.
‘I’m just grateful to be sitting on couches and have people talking and now especially I’m really grateful for it and the love.’
Ed is back in the spotlight ahead of the release of his album Minus.
