Ed Sheeran hints at feeling ‘so nervous’ before proposing to his wife Cherry on new song One Life

They secretly welcomed their second child earlier this month.

And Ed Sheeran looked back on the moment he proposed to his childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn on his new song One Life.

The track, which is one of four new releases on the deluxe version of his Equals album, appears to follow the moment he asked Cherry, 30, to marry him in 2017.

The singer, 31, has previously revealed he popped the question under a pergola in the garden of his Sussex estate after enjoying a bottle of wine.

And Ed documented the romantic moment on his new track, admitting in the heartfelt lyrics that he felt ‘so nervous’ before getting down on one knee.

In the first verse, he sings: ‘It’s such a beautiful night to make a change in our lives. East Anglian sky, empty bottle of wine.’

He goes on to admit that he is ‘lucky’ to be spending the evening with his girlfriend, before admitting his nerves ahead of his romantic proposal.

The Perfect hitmaker continues: ‘Why am I feeling so nervous when things are going so perfect? But I know that it’s worth it to spend forever with you.’

In the chorus, Ed reveals the tense moment he asked her to marry him and his anticipation as he waited on one knee for her all-important response.

He sings: ‘So I’ll ask you (Tonight) Will you marry me? Just say yes. One word, one love, one life.’

The rest of the song gushes over how emotional Ed felt after Cherry said yes, as he admits they were both left teary-eyed in the intimate moment.

‘Some things were just meant to be’, the track’s outro concludes.

The smitten couple tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed their first child Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran in August 2020, and their second child this month.

Ed has previously revealed that his wife was so shocked when he proposed to her that she asked ‘are you f***ing joking?’.

Speaking on the Swedish talk show Skavlan of the proposal, Ed said: ‘I was getting down on one knee and I said, ‘Will you marry me?’

‘And she was like, ‘Are you f***ing joking?’ There was this long silence and I just went, ‘Please?’

‘It is the most human I have ever felt because in my career. Sometimes you find it is like, ‘Can I do this?’ and people are like, ‘Yeah’.

‘You kind of get to a point where it becomes normal and then you are in a situation where you are literally on your knees being like, ‘Will you marry me?’

‘It is such a huge life decision someone has to make in the blink of an eye. Thankfully, she did say yes.’

Ed added of the proposal in Suffolk: ‘On the day it was p***ing down with rain and I’d built a f***ing pergola at the end of the garden to do it. Sunset, pergola, some wine… and it was p***ing down with rain.

‘I kept saying we should go for a walk and she was like, ‘No!’ I was like, ‘Are you sure you don’t want to go for a walk?’

‘Time was ticking. There was a date engraved on the ring and I was like, ‘I’ve got to do it today!’ ‘It gets to 9pm and I was like, ‘For f***’s sake!’

Earlier this month, Ed took to Instagram to announce the shock news that he and Cherry had welcomed their second child, sharing a picture of a white pair of baby booties.

The star had announced the birth of his first child Lyra, 21 months, in a similar way, sharing a snap of her baby socks on a blanket alongside his message.

The couple reportedly only confided in their closest family members about the pregnancy.

Ed’s spokesperson confirmed: ‘Ed and Cherry recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl and are on cloud nine.

‘They’re so excited for Lyra to have a little sister and the four of them are currently enjoying some precious family time before Ed heads back on tour.

‘We are delighted for them, and we hope that you can respect their privacy at this special time.’

Cherry was last seen in public in February when she attended the BRIT Awards with her husband.

She also visited the University Of Cambridge to collect her Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business – a program designed to develop insights that make business sense of sustainability and to empower leaders to bring about organisational change.

Speaking on the Open house Party podcast in June, Ed revealed he would be ‘super grateful’ to add more members to his family.

The West Yorkshire-born star said: ‘I would obviously be super grateful to be able to have any more kids, but I think girls are far superior to boys. As a boy myself, I feel like I can say this.

‘I feel like we were so lucky to be able to have one that I think I would obviously love more. But I think we’re so lucky to just have one. So if nothing else happens, I’m so happy, basically.’

In November, Ed revealed having his daughter Lyra Antarctica was a ‘blessing’ and a ‘miracle’ after struggling to conceive with his wife Cherry, 30.

The singer told how the couple had booked doctors appointments to check everything was okay after ‘trying to have a kid for a while’.

They then welcomed their first child last August, after conceiving naturally during a holiday in 2019 to Antarctica – which inspired the unusual name.

He told US radio’s The Breakfast Club: ‘We had tried for a while to have a kid, and we’d started going to doctors and figuring out what was up.

‘I did think it was a miracle, so that’s why I was like, we should have this in the name.

‘A lot of it is mental. It’s about relaxing. So many of my friends have been trying different things like IVF or making sure you’re having sex at the right time on the right day, and then they go to a wedding and get p*ssed and relax and they get pregnant.’

He added: ‘It’s not a given. It is a real blessing when it happens.

But he admitted Lyra might not like hearing why she got the moniker. ‘She’ll get older and be like, ‘Urgh’!’ Ed said.

Meanwhile in December, Ed revealed he finds being away from his daughter Lyra ‘really difficult’ and she has given him ‘purpose’ outside of his career.

Speaking on the Ellen Degeneres Show, the chart-topper admitted he was finding it hard being away from Lyra and his wife Cherry even just for a few days.

He said: ‘I really love being a dad. I started off with my job being my hobby and then one day I got paid for it and it became my job.

‘I just found I didn’t have any purpose outside of that. When I gave myself fixed time off work I wasn’t doing anything I enjoyed because I love music.

‘I actually find this really difficult, being away. There was a conversation about maybe taking Cherry and Lyra over here and jet lag is just not fun for a baby.’

Ed and Cherry were childhood sweethearts, having grown up together in the same town.

They rekindled their romance in 2014 and tied the knot in a small ceremony five years later.

‘Me and Cherry’s actual wedding was a tiny affair, with hardly anyone there,’ Ed revealed to fellow musician Jessie Ware on her Table Manners podcast.

‘We did it at night, at a random day in the middle of January, in the middle of nowhere,’ the Sing hitmaker added.

‘No one knew, no one came to it, we lit candles and we got married, went back and had a curry.’
