Ed Sheeran is giving fans the chance to be privately serenaded by him and fly out to LA for a pizza party. And it’s for a very, very good cause.
The 26-year-old singer has teamed up with the AIDS-fighting organization (RED) to raise money for moms and babies with the disease — and, in a bid to raise funds, is auctioning off the unique one-on-one experience.
To promote the contest, Ed was filmed participating in a very unlikely game show: Cheesy Love Song or Cheesy Pizza Review.
Good cause, cool prize: Ed Sheeran is offering fans the chance to fly out to LA for a pizza party and a private serenade by him
These are a few of our favorite things… Winners will get flights to LA, a hotel, tickets to iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball, a pizza party, and an intimate serenade
Leading up to World Aids Day on Friday, December 1, (RED) is kicking off its third annual (SHOPATHON)RED campaign, during which it sells limited-edition products and one-of-a-kind experiences with celebrities.
Last year, Neil Patrick Harris, Channing Tatum, U2, and DJ Khaled all offered up their time.
For 2017, Ed has a special treat for superfans: A winner who bids $10 or more at Omaze.com/ed will be flown out to Los Angeles, put up in a hotel, and taken to iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball in Los Angeles, CA on December 1, 2017.
There, they’ll have a pizza party and be treated to an intimate serenade from Ed himself.
‘We’re gonna share two of the most emotional experiences that the world has to offer: a private acoustic performance of a love song… and pizza,’ he says in a new video promoting the contest.
Guessing game: In a video for the fundraising site Omaze, Ed plays a funny game called Cheesy Love Song or Cheesy Pizza Review
Really! He is given lines printed on cards and has to guess which is a review and which is a lyric. HE was surprised to learn ‘How much pizza do you think we can chow?’ is a song lyric
Classic: It’s from Gimmie Pizza by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and appeared on a 1995 straight-to-video movie
Mind out of the gutter! He laughed when he realized’I keep waiting for you but you never come’ was not as dirty as he imagined and is actually from a song by his friend Taylor Swift
Double duty: Ed is clearly a fan of pizza — and he’s also pretty good with the love songs
Though he admits love songs and pizza sound as different as can be, he jokes that they may in fact be ‘so similar they’re almost impossible to tell apart’.
To prove their similarity, Ed is presented with several cards printed with lines that can be from either a song or a pizza review, and has to guess which is which.
The first one — ‘Yeah, I’d hit that again. Sometimes I even crave it’ — he easily guesses is a pizza review.
When he reads ‘Don’t tell me it’s not worth trying,’ though, he guesses wrong, missing that it’s part of the Bryan Adams son Everything I Do.
‘I keep waiting for you but you never come,’ hew knows, is also from a song — but as it turns out, the lyric is not as dirty as he imagined it was. It’s actually from his friend Taylor Swift’s single Love Story.
‘My mind went somewhere else with that,’ he admits while laughing.
Good job! Ed manages to get most of them right, including guessing that the line ‘I fell in love with a pizza girl’ is from a song
Flashback: It’s actually from a Jonas Brothers song Pizza Girl, which appeared on the brothers’ Disney Channel show. The music video involved them playing on a giant pizza
Up for grabs: A donation of $10 or more earns entries into the contest; the more you donate, the more entries you get
Line-up: He will be performing at Jingle Ball this year alongside Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, The Chainsmokers, Fifth Harmony, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Camila Cabello
Finally, there were two tricky ones. First, he reads, ‘How much pizza do you think we can chow?’
Ed wisely guesses that the seemingly obvious line is deliberately supposed to throw him off, and correctly guesses it’s a song.
He is surprised, though, to hear that a song called Gimmie Pizza exists. (It’s actually by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen from a 1995 VHS).
He also correctly guesses the line ‘I fell in love with a pizza girl,’ from a Jonas Brothers number, is a song lyric.
The competition for Ed’s serenade is now open, with higher donations upping a person’s chance at winning.
Proceeds will go to the Global Fund to help provide life-saving medication to moms and their babies impacted by HIV/AIDS. The Coca-Cola Company will also match every dollar donated, up to $2 million.
