Ed Sheeran has shared the confronting way he discovered his close friend Shane Warne had passed away.

The British musician, 31, told Hit Network’s Carrie & Tommy radio show, he found out the cricketer had died from a paparazzo in London.

Ed was leaving court, where he has been fighting to prove he did not copy portions of his hit ‘Shape of You’ from songwriting duo Sami Chokri and Ross O’Donoghue, when a photographer informed him of his friend’s death.

‘I came out of court on the first day to a paparazzi saying “Hey what do you think of your friend Shane dying?”,’ Ed explained.

‘It’s just a very very weird time. I haven’t been able to process or grieve anything… It’s really really sad,’ he said.

Ed also added: ‘I love Shane and I have an amazing last memory of me and him [at a Coldplay gig together].’

Shane was found unresponsive in his villa in Thailand at around 5.15pm on Friday, March 4, and was later pronounced dead aged 52.

An autopsy showed the sports star died of natural causes, with a suspected heart attack believed to be the cause of death.

He’s set to be farewelled in a state memorial service at Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 30, with a private funeral expected to take place on March 20.

The cricketer’s body arrived from Thailand into Australia on Thursday.

Warne became a global star in 1993 by bowling out Mike Gatting with the so-called ‘Ball of the Century’ – his first ball in Ashes cricket.

He went on to get 708 test wickets, tormenting teams all over the world, especially Australia’s great rival England.
