Eddie Hearn urges Dillian Whyte to ‘unload’ and go for a knock-out victory against Tyson Fury

Eddie Hearn urges Dillian Whyte to ‘unload’ and go for a knock-out victory against Tyson Fury at Wembley this weekend because he ‘will lose most rounds’ against the Gypsy King

  • Unbeaten Fury is the strong favourite for victory in the bout at Wembley Stadium

Eddie Hearn believes Dillian Whyte can spring a huge surprise by knocking out Tyson Fury in their world heavyweight title showdown – but admitted the challenger will ‘lose most rounds’ against the Gypsy King.

Whyte has a shot at glory this Saturday in London as he takes on WBC champion Fury, who is unbeaten in his professional career and last beat Deontay Wilder back in October.

Fury is the strong favourite to retain his belt when the two clash in the eagerly-anticipated fight in front of a sold-out Wembley Stadium.

But Hearn claims the result is far from a foregone conclusion, despite Whyte’s period of inactivity in the ring. The contest with Fury will be the Body Snatcher’s first outing since he stopped Alexander Povetkin in March of last year.

‘Dillian Whyte can win this fight by knockout. I think he will lose most rounds, to be honest with you, because I think Tyson is very difficult to win rounds against,’ Hearn said on talkSPORT.

‘But if Tyson gets sloppy, if Tyson gets hurt…if Dillian can disrupt the rhythm like Anthony [Joshua] did not do against [Oleksandr] Usyk, cut him off in the ring, and when he touches those ropes, unload everything…

‘It does not matter – belly, shoulders, neck, side of the head – anywhere you can hit him, because Tyson is very, very difficult to hit.

‘Both men have been inactive but the inactivity for Dillian is slightly worrying and he has got to get into the fight early.

‘You do not want to be six rounds in and be four or five rounds down in a fight like that because Tyson will coast from there.

‘Dillian is very fit, very strong and this is his chance. He is not the type of guy to go in there and let him pass it by so I expect him to give everything on Saturday.’

Carl Froch also feels the unfancied Whyte could cause an upset in the fight, set to break the attendance record for a boxing bout in Britain, while David Haye has gone as far as predicting a victory for the challenger.

The majority of boxing observers, however, would expect nothing less than win for the Gypsy King.
