Eddie Jones’ heckler works for Channel Nine – the Wallabies’ official broadcast partner 

The footy fan filmed heckling rugby coach Eddie Jones has been revealed to be an employee of the Nine Network – an official broadcast partner of the Wallabies. 

In footage circulating online, Jones, who is Australian and previously coached the Wallabies, was walking near the boundary after England’s win at the SCG on Saturday when a man in the crowd yelled out ‘you’re a traitor’ 

Known for his famously fiery temperament, Jones wasn’t content to let the sledge slide and had to be restrained by a security guard as he attempted to confront the fan.

‘What did you say? What did you say?’ Jones said. 

‘Come here and say it. Come here and say it. Come here and say it.’ 

The security guard then intervenes, telling the man ‘I’ve spoken to you before walk away,’ then the camera pans to show the media employee pulling an embarrassed facial expression.

The rowdy football fan has now been identified by the Daily Telegraph as 2GB sales representative Jimmy Paton. 

Nine, which owns 2GB radio, is the broadcasting partner of the Wallabies and aired the test match on Saturday over free to air and via its streaming platform Stan Sport. 

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Nine for comment.

Rugby Australia chief executive Andy Marinos denounced the heckler’s actions in a statement Monday.

‘The offensive remarks made by spectators in the Members’ areas towards England staff were unacceptable – and not representative of the values of rugby,’ Marinos said.

‘We have a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behaviour, and we are working with Venues NSW on appropriate sanctions for these individuals. 

‘Rugby prides itself on values of respect and integrity. Please, cheer for your team with all that you have. But please, always show respect for others.’

The Daily Telegraph contacted Paton for comment but did not receive a response, however, it is understood he has apologised to Jones via email.  

Jones has had an extensive coaching career that includes five years as head coach of the Wallabies, guiding the Australians to the Rugby World Cup final in 2003.

He was an assistant in South Africa when the Springboks won the 2007 World Cup, coached Japan to one of the biggest upsets in rugby history with a win over South Africa at the 2015 World Cup and guided England to the final in 2019.

Former Australia playmaker Matt Giteau was among the players, officials and rugby supporters who criticized the verbal attack on Jones.

2GB is owned by Nine Radio, a division of the Nine Entertainment. The network is a broadcast partner of the Wallabies 

‘I, as a proud Wallaby & Australian, don´t think for one second Eddie is a traitor,’ Giteau posted on Twitter. 

‘He is a proud Aussie that happens to coach another national team that isn´t us. This is sport nowadays.’

Australia won the series-opening match in Perth 30-28 but England rallied to clinch the series with narrow wins in Brisbane and Sydney. 

But a several episodes involving spectators took the shine off the blockbuster game.

In another incident, a man was filmed appearing to urinate on the top of a grandstand after allegedly climbing onto the roof. 

Marinos described his actions as ‘deplorable … disgraceful and dangerous.’

New South Wales state police arrested and charged the man, 31, with behaving in an offensive manner.

The venue, the Sydney Cricket Ground, have banned him for two years. He has also been barred for life from all Rugby Australia events.
