Eddie McGuire reveals his most moving moment ever on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire

‘This isn’t just life changing. This is a lifesaving experience’: Eddie McGuire reveals his most moving moment ever on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

Eddie McGuire has been at the helm of Millionaire Hot Seat and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for 20 years.

And speaking to Nine Honey this weekend, the 54-year-old has revealed the most moving moment he’s ever experienced on the show.

The emotional TV host explained that a well-dressed man, who he described as a ‘serious businessman in a really nice suit’ won a substantial sum on the show, during the global financial crisis (GFC).

Backstage, Eddie congratulated the winner, only to have the man break down in front of him.

‘We came off set and I said, “Do you want to use my phone and ring your wife?” And he started shaking and broke down,’ Eddie recalls.

‘He hadn’t told his wife or his daughter who was in the audience that, because of the GFC, he was going to see the real estate agent the next day to sell the family house and that he was going to pull his daughter out of school.

‘You go, “Wow, this isn’t just life changing. This is a lifesaving experience.”‘

It comes after Eddie confirmed The AFL Footy Show would be coming back to Nine screens in the coming months.

Channel Nine had cancelled the show just last month due to poor ratings.

Speaking to The Herald Sun, the veteran TV host said the show would be returning for one-night only, for the AFL grand final on September 26.

‘For one night only we’re putting the band back together again,’ Eddie told the publication.

He insisted it will be like the ‘old-fashioned Footy Show,’ adding about controversial co-host Sam Newman: ‘Sam is one of the great performers and we haven’t seen enough of him.’

He finished: ‘The Grand Final deserves to have a massive free-to-air television show.’
