Edwina Bartholomew’s very sentimental wedding gown

Edwina Bartholomew tied the knot to her long-term partner Neil Varcoe in an intimate ceremony on Saturday.

And the Sunrise reporter looked simply breathtaking as she walked down the aisle to say ‘I Do’ to the man of her dreams.

The 34-year-old opted for a lace dress that was just as sentimental as it was stunning, with the garment having been passed down through her family for three generations.

Sentimental and simply breathtaking: When Edwina Bartholomew walked down the aisle on Saturday, she opted to keep things in the family – wearing a dress that was worn by her own grandmother, but updated with the help of Melbourne designer Sonia Cappellazzo

Edwina’s beloved grandmother first wore the lace gown on her own wedding day way back in 1944.

Keeping things conservative and classic, the TV star also added a veil – another family heirloom that was given to Edwina’s great-grandmother in 1915.

The vintage dress was updated by Melbourne designer Sonia Cappellazzo and took twelve months and a number of fittings to finish.

Speaking with Daily Mail Australia on Saturday, Sonia said she and Edwina worked together to ensure the cotton and lace garment was given a modern twist.

Despite the risks of using the delicate dress, Sonia said she was determined to make it work for the bride.

The artisan made a strapless, silk corseted under-gown with a slightly fluted skirt, which was then overlaid by the vintage lace gown.

Due to the delicacy of the lace, Sonia told Daily Mail Australia she made an extended train to ensure the fragile lace wouldn’t get snagged on anything as Edwina walked down the aisle.

The pair also ensured they kept the exquisite pearl buttons at the back of the dress.

‘I wanted to keep it authentic,’ Sonia said, but added that the Sunrise star was very trusting: ‘She was very open to the process.’
