‘It’s a little too early to speculate what has occurred but it has been a tragic incident today. The family are certainly suffering a horrific loss of parents,’ NSW Police acting superintendent Gerard Lawson told a press conference on Friday.

‘We’re not looking for any weapons at this stage and nor are we looking for a third party. There were some obvious injuries but I don’t want to go into it. For the sake of the family I don’t want to speculate,’ supt Lawson said.

The couple’s dog had been at property at the time and was reluctant to leave.

‘That’s one of the most emotional parts about it, the dog didn’t want to leave the house this morning but she has gone to family,’ supt Lawson said.

Mr Webb had previously received a ‘Pride of Portside’ award for cleaning up rubbish in the area.

When he was given the award he said he wanted to clean up the broken glass and other rubbish for the mother’s and kids in the area.

Neighbours told the Portside News they would see him regularly walking his dog at the park while tidying up the area.

A major police operation is now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the duo’s deaths, in what is suspected to be a murder-suicide, Newcastle Herald reported.

The couple’s medical history will be reviewed during police investigations.

Crime scenes have now been established at both locations, but police said initial inquiries suggest no third party was involved.

Newcastle City detectives are investigating the matter.
