  • Egypt and Senegal are both battling for a place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
  • A Saliou Ciss own goal separated the two teams in the first leg on Friday
  • The second leg between the two sides is due to take place in Dakar on Tuesday

Egypt edged past Senegal 1-0 on Friday to move one step closer to booking their place at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Looking to bounce back from their defeat against Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final last month, Egypt made the perfect start when they went in front through a Saliou Ciss own goal in the fourth minute.

The visitors searched for an equaliser but couldn’t find a breakthrough, and they will now have to overturn a narrow deficit in Tuesday’s second leg in Dakar.
