Elderly man, 89, is charged with attempted murder after ‘repeatedly stabbing his carer’

  • Police responded to calls of an altercation at an East Geelong home Wednesday
  • They arrived to find an 89-year-old allegedly stabbed his 68-year-old male carer 
  • The alleged offender was arrested by police and charged for attempted murder 

An elderly man is facing murder charges after allegedly stabbing his carer multiple times in the back yard of his home. 

The 89-year-old allegedly attacked his 68-year-old male carer during a heated argument at his property in the affluent Melbourne suburb of of East Geelong. 

Police were called to his Humble Street address about 5pm on Wednesday, and arrested the alleged offender at the scene, Geelong Advertiser reports.

The older of the two men was taken interviewed and charged following the incident, in which the victim sustained serious injuries to his upper body. 

The younger male, from the nearby town of Newtown, was rushed to Geelong Hospital where he continues to be treated.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. 

It is not known what the two men were disputing when the violent row broke out. 

The 89-year-old is set to face attempted murder charges in Geelong Magistrates’ Court on October 19.
