Drama unfolded at a Perth marina on Saturday when an elderly man was found unconscious in the water.
The 60-year-old was fishing at Ocean Reef near Joondalup, north of Perth, when he was recovered from the water by a surf lifesaver on a jetski at 8am.
A frantic resuscitation effort was not enough to save the fisherman, who later died in hospital.
The man was fishing for abalone and is suspected to have drowned.

Seven West Media reported a witness saw a ‘desperate resuscitation’ by paramedics lasted ’30 to 40 minutes’.
The family of the man turned up and were ‘visibly upset’, the witness told the publication.
One man commented on social media he was diving in the area Saturday morning and there were ‘hundreds of people on the reef’.
The Western Australian Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
