Elizabeth Banks and Succession star Matthew MacFadyen to lead Peacock romantic dramedy The Miniature Wife

Elizabeth Banks and Matthew MacFadyen are preparing to play romantic opposites, and the height difference jokes write themselves.

Banks, 50 and 5ft5in, and MacFadyen, 49 and 6ft3in, have been cast in Peacock’s new romantic dramedy The Miniature Wife, for which they will also serve as executive producers.

Based on the short story by Manuel Gonzalez, the show is described as ‘a high-concept marital dramedy examining the power (im)balances between spouses,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The pair plays Lindy and Les, ‘who battle each other for supremacy after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis.’

The Miniature Wife is created by showrunners and executive producers Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner of Boardwalk Empire.

Additionally, Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer serve as executive producers.

Peacock won the series in a bidding war with other streamers earlier this year and gave it a straight-to-series order.

The casting news comes after MacFadyen won his second Emmy Award and first Golden Globe for HBO’s Succession.

He frequently stole the show as Tom Wambsgans, a Waystar executive and husband to heiress Shiv Roy.

MacFadyen’s next role will mark his Marvel debut as Paradox in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The British actor is also set to star alongside Nicole Kidman and Gael García Bernal in the upcoming thriller Holland, Michigan.

Banks’ return to Peacock comes after she executive produced Bumper In Berlin, a 2022 TV offshoot of the Pitch Perfect movies.

The Emmy Award nominee is next set to star in the Hollywood thriller Skincare, alongside Lewis Pullman, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Luis Gerardo Méndez and Nathan Fillion.

Although Banks will be in front of the camera for The Miniature Wife she has lately carved a niche for herself behind it as well.

After directing short films and a segment of the omnibus film Movie 43, she made her feature directorial debut in 2015 with Pitch Perfect 2.

Since then, she has helmed the 2019 Charlie’s Angels reboot, which performed poorly at the box office, as well as last year’s surprise hit horror-comedy Cocaine Bear.
