A major operation is underway in the Sydney’s CBD which involved the mass evacuation of office workers and police.

Police swarmed the busy office tower on Elizabeth Street sometime after 1pm on Wednesday.

The building is understood to house the offices of NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb and other police services.

Photos from the scene show multiple police vehicles parked in the busy street as officers guarded the entrances and exits of the building, which has been roped off.

Federal police and the riot squad are also in attendance.

A paramedic was seen heading into the building wheeling a stretcher.

‘We heard that a building had been locked down from the news’.

‘There was an ambulance going by as well.’

The police operation is not far from where a lawyer was allegedly shot inside his ninth storey office last week.
