Recent events: DeGeneres’ outing marks the first time that she had been seen in public after Drew Barrymore and Dakota Johnson spoke about the latter’s awkward appearance on the comedian’s show in 2019
DeGeneres’ outing comes not long after Barrymore and Johnson spoke about the latter’s infamous 2019 appearance on the host’s program, during which she called the personality out for no-showing at her birthday party.
The television figure broached the topic by asking the now-32-year-old actress, ‘How was the party? I wasn’t invited.’
The Fifty Shades franchise star corrected the comedian’s statement, and pointed out that she had in fact sent an invitation and that she had been castigated for her perceived behavior in the past.
‘Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen, you were invited. Last time I was on the show…you gave me a bunch of s*** about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited,’ she said.
Ouch: During the sit-down, Johnson told the show’s host that she ‘gave me a bunch of s*** about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited’
The performer also made a point of telling the host, ‘I didn’t even know you liked me.’
DeGeneres quickly took a defensive stance on the subject and asked Johnson: ‘You’ve been on the show many times and don’t I show like?’
The actress reiterated that she had sent an invitation to the comedian, stating: ‘but I did invite you and you didn’t come, so.’
When the show’s host inquired if the actress was sure about what she was saying, the Suspiria cast member told her to ‘ask everybody,’ which generated a strong response from the studio audience.

Johnson eventually appeared on an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show that aired earlier this month, and the pair discussed how, although the actress lives near Jimmy Kimmel and his family, she is not a familiar face at their gatherings.
The performer noted that the late-night show host and his wife ‘have a lot of parties but they don’t invite me.’
Barrymore then referenced her guest’s past interview with DeGeneres and noted that the comedian received much bad press for her statements during the sit-down.
‘Is this for real? Because people have gotten in trouble for claiming [about] not being invited to your parties,’ she said.
When Johnson flashed a knowing smile, the 50 First Dates actress commented that her guest’s actions were ‘amazing, by the way. Like, amazing.’
