Elon Musk fears that Western civilisation is under threat and is holding private talks on how to get rid of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, according to sources close to the billionaire.
The tech mogul is said to be weighing up with his allies on how the Labour government can be destabilised by the next general election.
Mr Musk has sought information about building support for alternative British political movements to force a change in government, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
‘His view is that Western civilisation itself is threatened,’ one of the people was quoted as telling the FT.
The multi-billionaire has been launching a barrage of unfounded attacks on the Labour government, labelling the PM ‘Two tier Keir’ and accusing him of being ‘complicit in the rape of Britain’ during his tenure as director of public prosecutions.
Mr Musk reignited his row with Sir Keir over Labour’s rejection of a new national inquiry into grooming gangs.
He has posted a number of inflammatory messages on his X social media site, claiming the PM should be in ‘prison’ and asked whether America should ‘liberate’ Britain from its ‘tyrannical government’.
Sir Keir has hit back and accused Mr Musk of ‘spreading lies and misinformation’ with his posts to his 210million followers.

It was reported yesterday by The Mirror that Government counter-extremism officers are investigating Mr Musk’s posts as to whether the pose any threat to Britain.
A government source told the newspaper: ‘We keep a close eye on how disinformation and hate can proliferate, including online.’
The South African-born businessman, a close ally of US President-elect Donald Trump, has also endorsed far-Right thug Tommy Robinson.
And yesterday he used X to stream an 84 minute discussion with Alice Weidel, the head of Germany’s far-right, anti-immigrant AfD.
Mr Musk has said that the party is ‘the only hope for Germany’ and has previously called the country’s chancellor Olaf Scholz an ‘incompetent fool’.
Mr Musk has irked other European leaders this week with four governments objecting in the space of 24 hours to his social media posts.
France’s Emmanuel Macron, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Spain’s government spokeswoman, Pilar Alegría, have all hit out at Mr Musk.
‘Ten years ago, who could have imagined it if we had been told that the owner of one of the largest social networks in the world would support a new international reactionary movement and intervene directly in elections, including in Germany,’ Macron told ambassadors at an annual foreign policy speech on Monday.

In response, the Space X owner accused Sir Keir of interfering in the US election after a delegation of British Labour Party members campaigned for the Democrats last year.
He tweeted: ‘Oh like that time Starmer called [Donald Trump] a racist and said the British government should do everything to stop him?
‘Or when Starmer sent British Labour Party members to campaign in the US against President Trump this year?’
Mr Gahr Store said it ‘worrying that a man with considerable access to social networks and significant economic resources is so directly involved in the internal affairs of other countries’.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned on Wednesday that fascism could return as Musk ‘openly attacks our institutions’ and ‘stirs up hatred’.
German opposition leader Friedrich Merz also called Mr Musk’s remarks ‘intrusive and pretentious’, while vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck warned him: ‘Hands off our democracy, Mr Musk!’
‘The combination of immense wealth, control over information and networks, the use of artificial intelligence and the will to ignore rules is a frontal attack on our democracy,’ the Green Party politician told Der Spiegel.
