Elon Musk’s 18-year-old daughter Vivian has been pictured for the first time since she legally changed her name – and dropped her father’s famous surname – after telling a court that she ‘no longer wishes to be related’ to the billionaire Tesla founder ‘in any way.’
The teenager, who was born a biological male and given the name Xavier Alexander Musk, submitted a legal petition to change her name and her gender back in April, telling a California court that she wanted to be known as Vivian Jenna Wilson, in part to distance herself from her father, who is worth close to $272 billion.
That petition was granted in June.
Now, Vivian has been pictured for the first time since her legal rift with Elon, 51, was made public – stepping out in Santa Monica, California, when she was seen enjoying a quick shopping trip, before climbing into the back of a Tesla to head back to her mother’s house.
Vivian kept it casual for the outing, donning a brown T-shirt with a yellow pattern on it, black sweatpants, and a pair of sneakers. She wore a face mask and kept her long, flowing blonde hair loose.

She was joined by a female companion, and the two were seen getting into a Tesla – the vehicle that shot her father to fame and earned him billions – together, before heading off, with the unidentified woman in the driver’s seat.
They drove back to Vivian’s mother’s house, where the teen was seen entering the residence in just her socks, while holding her sneakers in her hands.
Back in June, it was reported that Vivian had officially adopted her mother Justine’s maiden name and that she had also been granted a first and middle name change by the Los Angeles County Superior Court, as well as a gender change.
At the time, it was revealed that a new birth certificate reflecting the switch was due to be issued shortly after Vivian’s petition was granted by a judge.
The judge’s ruling simply read: ‘The petitioner’s name is changed from Xavier Alexander Musk to Vivian Jenna Wilson. The gender of the petitioner is changed from male to female.’
Vivian first filed court papers to make the switch in April. She stated in the documents that her decision to change her moniker was motivated by ‘the fact that she no longer lives with or wishes to be related to her biological father in any way, shape, or form.’

They split in 2008, and in a 2010 essay for Marie Claire, Justine recalled feeling more like an ’employee’ than a ‘wife’ to Elon.
‘He had grown up in the male-dominated culture of South Africa, and the will to compete and dominate that made him so successful in business did not magically shut off when he came home,’ she explained.
‘This, and the vast economic imbalance between us, meant that in the months following our wedding, a certain dynamic began to take hold.
‘Elon’s judgment overruled mine, and he was constantly remarking on the ways he found me lacking. “I am your wife,” I told him repeatedly, “not your employee.” “If you were my employee,” he said just as often, “I would fire you.”‘

Tuesday marked the first time Vivian was seen since the news hit the web
She went makeup free for the outing, and dressed comfortably in a T-shirt and sweats
Her unnamed female companion held onto her purchases for her as they exited the various stores
Vivian’s companion then drove the teenager back to her mother’s house in a dark gray Tesla
They drove back to her mother’s house, where she was seen entering the residence in just her socks, as she held her sneakers in her hands
During the car ride, Vivian spent some time looking at her phone
She was ironically driven in a Tesla, the car her father invented
It appeared that she made herself comfortable during the ride by taking off her shoes, since she was seen walking barefoot into her mom’s house afterwards
As of 2010 when the essay was written, Justine said she and Elon were ‘estranged,’ but that she did not regret their relationship.
‘Although I am estranged from Elon – when it comes to the children, I deal with his assistant – I don’t regret my marriage,’ she wrote.
‘I’ve worked through some anger, both at Elon for rendering me so disposable, and at myself for buying into a fairy tale when I should have known better.
‘But I will always respect the brilliant and visionary person that he is. I also can’t regret the divorce (our case was bifurcated, which means that even though the property issues aren’t settled, our marriage is legally dead).
‘Elon and I share custody of the children, who are thriving. I feel grounded now, and deeply grateful for my life.’
Their five children – including Vivian – have largely managed to remain out of the spotlight, although it was revealed in 2018 that they were being educated at a radical, ultra-exclusive school set up by the business mogul at his SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California.
The ‘experimental’ school, which is called Ad Astra, meaning ‘to the stars’ in Latin, was set up in 2014.
As of 2018, it was being attended by a very small, select group of students, including Elon’s five kids and the offspring of several SpaceX employees.

Elon created Ad Astra to ‘exceed traditional school metrics on all relevant subject matter through unique project-based learning experiences,’ according to a previously unreported document filed with the IRS and uncovered by tech-focused publication Ars Technica.
The SpaceX creator went on to father two more kids with singer Grimes – a son named X Æ A-12, whom they call ‘X’ in May 2020, and a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl, or ‘Y’ for short, born via surrogate in December 2021.
However, shortly after revealing the news about their newborn arrival in a Vanity Fair interview, Grimes confirmed that the pair had split for a second time, writing on Twitter: ‘Me and E have broken up *again* since the writing of this article.
‘But he’s my best friend and the love of my life.’
In her sit-down with Vanity Fair, Grimes opened up about her ‘fluid’ relationship with Elon, who has an estimated net worth of $228.7 billion, explaining that the couple were still romantically involved and were co-parenting their two children together, despite living in separate homes.
Most recently, it was reported that the Tesla founder is dating Australian actress Natasha Bassett.
