‘We still don’t know where this horse has come from, but she definitely wasn’t a wild horse, she was definitely a station horse or something like that because she was so tame,’ Ms Woods told 7 News.

The Woods family drove to Kookynie’s Grand Hotel and asked the owner Kevin Pusey for help.

When they returned to check on the horse, she had disappeared.

But three hours later the group found Sherrie hiding from the sun under a tree.

They gave her food and water before leading her back to the road where a group with a horse float were waiting.

But half way through the 12-kilometre trek back to the pub Sherrie got scared and fell off the float.

So Mr Pusey and the group decided they would walk the horse back to the pub- a trip that took them six hours overnight. Sherrie got her name on the journey home.

The horse is recovering well is being looked after by Mr Pusey, who has another rescue horse.
