Emergency evacuation of Victoria train station in London

Victoria station in London has been evacuated over fears a fire has broken out.

Emergency services are at the scene, where the incident has closed major London Underground lines.

The Circle, District and Victoria line trains stopped serving the station as firefighters investigated.

According to one witness on Twitter, an ‘Inspector Sands’ announcement was heard at the station as passengers were evacuated from Tube platforms.

The Inspector Sands code is used by stations across the country to alert police to emergencies. 

Twitter user Brett Sinclair described the scene on the social media platform.

‘People inc myself running out of Victoria station after announcement that there was an emergency. Not sure what’s happening. Madness.

‘Lots of sirens/blue lights happening outside now. Still unsure what’s going on.’

Transport for London has since confirmed through its Twitter account that the station has reopened.

The Circle, District and Victoria lines are now serving the Underground station as normal.
