- Melbourne to Singapore flight path cut
- Boeing 777s have flown the route since 1996
Emirates has axed its route linking Melbourne and Singapore after flying between the cities for 28 years.
The Dubai-based airline’s Boeing 777s have serviced the route since 1996.
The airline hasn’t revealed when its planes will stop making the eight-hour flight.
‘Emirates will determine the termination date of the EK404/405 Singapore–Melbourne service after receiving the final assessment of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS),’ an Emirates spokesperson told Australian Aviation.
‘When the termination date is finalised, Emirates will communicate changes to affected passengers and offer them alternative travel arrangements.’
Emirates said it would continue to fly between Singapore and Dubai, with multiple flights a day.
It’s understood that once the last Emirates plane flies from Melbourne to Singapore, the carrier won’t operate any aircraft between Singapore and Australia at all.
Emirates will maintain four daily flights between Singapore and Dubai, and two non-stop daily A380 flights from Melbourne to Dubai, despite cutting the Melbourne-Singapore leg.
Emirates previously operated flights from Brisbane to Singapore but discontinued the route in 2019.
Emirates flights linking Melbourne and Singapore will be axed
Non-stop A380 flights will continue to link Melbourne and Dubai without the Singapore leg
