Emma McKeon’s strong start to her pursuit of Commonwealth Games glory continued after the Aussie swimmer qualified for the 50m freestyle semi finals on Saturday.

McKeon, aiming to become the most decorated Australian in Commonwealth Games history, cruised through in the heats in Birmingham, swimming in 24.52seconds to book her place in the semi-final, finishing first in the process.

On Friday, McKeon picked up her first gold of this year’s Games, winning the 4x100m mixed freestyle alongside her ex-boyfriend Kyle Chalmers. 

Elsewhere, Shayna Jack also advanced to the semi finals of the 50m freestyle in a quicker time than her compatriot, touching the wall at 24.31seconds. 

It was her belated first swim on the international stage after she was forced to sit out for two years following a ban due to a positive drugs test.
