Emmerdale star Martelle Edinborough has revealed she has undergone brain surgery to treat a brain aneurysm.

The actress, 35, who plays Suzy Merton in the ITV soap, took to Twitter on Wednesday to give her followers a health update following her operation.

Martelle told her fans that the existing brain aneurysm was always thought to be ‘tiny & stable’, adding that she wasn’t ‘sure where the error occurred for it to take so long to highlight this.’

Despite the mix-up, Martelle remained positive as she shared a beaming snap from her hospital bed and remarked that she feels ‘happy & blessed’ to have had a successful surgery.

She also went on to thank the NHS staff for looking after her, noting that she was ‘truly grateful’ for their hard work.

Writing on her Twitter page, she said: ‘A few weeks ago I was told an existing brain aneurysm thought to always be tiny & stable had in fact always been of a size that needed treatment. 

‘Not sure where the error occurred for it to take so long to highlight this but despite the initial shock, I could only receive it as a blessing & refused to allow it manifest into fear, stress & anxiety.

‘Yesterday, I had surgery where Dr’s were able to amazingly & successfully treat the aneurysm, placing a flow diverter in the artery to cut the off the blood supply to it, soon enabling it disappear for good!’

She went on: ‘This is me post surgery. Peace signs at the readyyy! I can’t tell you how happy & blessed I felt/feel right now! 

‘Massive, MASSIVE thank you to all the incredible @NHSuk Dr’s, nurses & support staff, you are Amazing! & I am TRULY grateful to you all.’

Several followers went on to share their well wishes with the soap star, with one writing: ‘You are a superwoman. I am so happy you got treatment and your mindset is to be admired. 

‘Be more Martelle. Good luck in recovery. So happy to have worked with you. Get well soon.’

And Martelle was quick to confirm that she’d be back on her feet and filming in the Dales soon as she replied: ‘haha Thanks so much lovely, I go home today. Just got to get plenty of rest for a couple of weeks then I’ll be back at it.’

The kind-hearted beauty also took the time to reply to several other messages from fans wishing her a speedy recovery. 

Martelle’s character first appeared in Emmerdale in March 2022 as Vanessa Woodfield’s love interest.

Since then, she’s been part of several key storylines including Suzy and Leyla Harding’s attempts to take on drug dealer Callum Matthews. 

Her character even ended up in hospital after being brutally attacked by the thug, while Leyla – who was also kidnapped by Callum – was left riddled with anxiety.  

The actress previously shared her delight on being part of the ITV soap.

She said: ‘I’m absolutely loving being part of the team. I grew up on Emmerdale so it’s a real honour to be in it, especially during its 50th year of being on our screens!’
