Emotional Chezzi Denyer breaks down in tears as she reveals she thought her husband Grant was going to die after he collapsed on the set of The Amazing Race Australia

An emotional Chezzi Denyer has spoken about the moment she thought her husband Grant was going to die on the set of The Amazing Race Australia.

The Logie winner, 45, suffered a frightening medical emergency after competing in a dance challenge with his wife in the humid Indian heat.

Chezzi, 42, told The Kyle and Jackie O show on Friday, she thought Grant was going to die after he collapsed and paramedics were called.

‘It really shocked the pants off me,’ she said.

‘Grant races cars so he is so conditioned to extreme heat so all we can put it down to is he potentially had a high level of mould intake from the cow challenge which was beforehand.’

‘From then on he didn’t sweat and it was 40 degree heat,’ she explained.

Chezzi broke down in tears as she admitted: ‘There was a period there I thought he was dying.’

Grant also said he doesn’t know why he collapsed but admitted the incident was ‘quite confronting for everyone’.

‘100 people died in three days in India from the heat,’ he explained.

‘But it was quite confronting for everyone there… It was tough for a lot of people. Watching it [on television] was a bit triggering.

In dramatic scenes which aired on Thursday night, Grant can be seen on the ground as paramedics struggle to give him urgent medical attention while Chezzi watches on.

‘Can we get the medic? He’s shaking, he’s shivering,’ a voice can be heard saying.

‘We were cooking from the inside,’ Chezzi explained to cameras after completing their latest challenge.

Things then took a sudden turn for the worst when it was apparent Grant was very unwell.

‘You need to sit down. Grant? You’re not OK, are you? You’re looking like you’re going to faint,’ Chezzi yelled.

Medics soon brought him inside to an air conditioned room, however his face worryingly pale.

‘He’s not looking good – he’s shivering on the floor,’ Survivor star George Mladenov said as he watched on from outside.

‘He was really pale and dropping in and out of consciousness, and I thought, “This is really serious. I don’t think he realises how serious this is,”‘  said Chezzi.

Grant eventually recovered to the point that he was able to sit up and walk around – but it was too much for them to continue the race and the couple were eliminated from the show.
