Emotional Kyle Sandilands tears up as he reveals the heartwarming reason he donated $20,000 to a rural hospital to buy an incubator for sick babies

Kyle Sandilands has donated $20,000 to a rural Victorian hospital so they can purchase an incubator for sick newborns.

The emotional radio star, 52, said becoming a father last year to his son Otto has made him more concerned about helping ill babies.

‘I’d seen reports about terrible things happening to babies and thought, “That’s no good”. But when you see a sick child when you have a child, I started to melt,’ he told co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson on their radio show on Tuesday.

He added he was moved to donate because while $20,000 meant nothing to him, it could mean the world to the parents of a sick infant.

‘For hospitals in the bush, incubators are donated by families. I thought there was millions of dollars for hospital equipment, but that’s not true,’ he explained.

‘I was watching someone on SkyNews last night and they were saying that hopefully by the end of the week they will have raised enough money to buy an incubator to keep the little kiddies alive.

‘He said they had raised $5000 and I thought that I’ve got $20,000 in my pocket right now. I just texted host Paul Murray and said to put me down for it,’ he added.

An emotional mother then called up the show to thank Kyle for his incredible act of kindness, in donating to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation for the Mildura Hospital.

‘Without people like you, the babies wouldn’t survive. I had my son early at 24 weeks and he was in an incubator for 130 days on breathing tubes. There’s no way my baby would have survived without people like you,’ she tearfully told the host.

Kyle previously revealed that welcoming his son Otto in August last year with his wife Tegan Kynaston has softened him up.

The shock jock gushed over the tot during an interview with Daily Mail Australia in October last year.

‘I used to watch hours and hours of TV, and now I just sit there looking at him and he’s really been a joy,’ he said.

‘I’ve just been sitting at home the whole time which I’ve enjoyed. I’m at home now more than I was with lockdowns, so we’re loving every second of it. I’m pretty happy actually. I can’t imagine being any happier.’

Kyle admitted he never dreamed of having children, but now he’s ‘thrilled’ he decided to take the plunge and become a dad.

In September, he revealed Otto is already a millionaire after his great-grandfather put aside a huge amount of money in a trust fund for him.
