Eddie Jones was forced to defend the selection of Kyle Sinckler in England’s squad to take on France tomorrow after concerns were raised about his inclusion.
The Bristol prop, who was replaced before half-time, groggy, during last weekend’s home defeat by Ireland, has been cleared for a bench role in the Six Nations finale.
However, there was an instant backlash against the inclusion of the 28-year-old, following criticism of Wales for selecting Tomas Francis soon after he suffered an alarming concussion.

Lobby group Progressive Rugby, which is seeking better protection for players and represents several former professionals who have suffered serious medical issues, condemned Sinckler’s selection.
Their statement read: ‘Progressive Rugby are deeply disappointed to see Kyle Sinckler selected to face France following what we maintain was a clear concussion last weekend.
‘We place no blame on the player who wants to represent his country but on the protocols that should protect him.’
However, when questioned about the decision to pick Sinckler, Jones insisted that all he could do was rely on professional guidance and operate within the agreed guidelines, saying: ‘I only follow the medical protocols. We’ve got a very good medical staff.

‘Wales went through the same thing with Tomas Francis. There are protocols in place to ensure the safety of players and it’s not for me to second-guess the medical staff.
‘He goes through all the protocols and we get an independent professor to judge his status to play the game, then we take that all into consideration and if it’s all positive then he’s fit for selection.’
Meanwhile, Bath flanker Sam Underhill has been recalled to England’s starting XV to face France after enduring a number of his own concussion episodes.
