ENGLAND PLAYER RATINGS: Harry Kane filled his boots, while Aaron Ramsdale had little to do

Harry Kane scored four goals in England’s 10-0 demolition of San Marino as Gareth Southgate’s side made official their place in next year’s World Cup finals in Qatar on Monday.

In truth England needed only a point against the world’s 210th and lowest-ranked footballing nation to seal top spot in Group I so the only real question was how many goals they would deliver to mark the occasion.

Kane duly filled his boots, following up his hat-trick in the 5-0 win against Albania on Friday with four goals before half-time, including two penalties, swelling his England tally to 48 to move joint third on the list alongside Gary Lineker.

ENGLAND (3-4-3)

AARON RAMSDALE 6.5

Proud night for Arsenal man but, as expected, an overall quiet outing on his debut. Did have one save to make and cross to deal with and did so well.

HARRY MAGUIRE 7.5

With little to occupy him defensively, pushed forward, got on the ball plenty and distributed it well. Gave England lead with thumping header though celebrated with less fuss this time.

CONOR COADY 7.5

Anchored England’s defence in centre of back three. Easy night for the vocal Wolves captain who ended the night with England armband. Just required to start moves and stay alert.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale had little to do apart from one deflected shot from distance

TYRONE MINGS 7

Required to do very little defending so took chance when he could to get forward and scored his first England goal with second-half header. Did not take risks when called upon.

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD 7

Struggled to make impact until final quarter when he set up three goals with trademark, inviting deliveries from the right for Mings, Abraham and Saka’s goals. Much happier with second half contribution.

JUDE BELLINGHAM 7

Full of energy and made numerous runs to support attack, provide an option and try and create when England went forward. Harshly denied a first England goal following VAR review.

KALVIN PHILLIPS 7

Used ball well and was sharp into the tackle when required. Helped England keep possession moving in midfield but was not needed to do much more than that. Withdrawn at half-time.

Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold came good late on with a hat-trick of assists

BUKAYO SAKA 8.5

Had the beating of defence all night. A constant out ball and direct threat on either flank. Forced the own goal for England’s second, involved in Smith Rowe’s strike and got deserved goal.

PHIL FODEN 7.5

Roamed around and created danger wherever he popped up. Set up opener for Maguire with a pinpoint corner and his overhead kick led to Kane’s penalty first.

HARRY KANE 9

Desperate to play, make more history and fill his boots and duly did, bettering his Albania exploits with four goals. Up to third in all-time scorers list. Matter of time before record falls.

EMILE SMITH ROWE 8

Good first half, linking well with club mate Saka and setting up Kane’s second then capped his full debut with a clinical finish after the break. Moment to remember for in-form attacker.

Bukayo Saka was a threat on both flanks and capped his impressive display with a goal

Not afraid to book San Marino players or punish them for their defensive lapses by pointing to the spot. Wrong to rule out Bellingham’s goal though.
