England have been dealt a blow after Marc Guehi was booked three minutes into the last-16 clash with Slovakia, ruling him out of a possible quarter-final.
The Crystal Palace star, one of England’s best players at Euro 2024 so far, was given a yellow card for a challenge on David Strelec.
Guehi had been played into trouble by Kieran Trippier and upended Strelec.
Referee Umut Meler opted to book the centre back, whose challenge prevented Slovakia from launching a dangerous attack.
Guehi was one of two England players booked in the first eight minutes as Kobbie Mainoo, handed his first start at the tournament by Gareth Southgate, was also shown a yellow card.

Guehi also had his name taken in the drab 0-0 draw with Slovenia in England’s final group game on Tuesday.
Under UEFA rules, two yellow cards in separate matches leads to a suspension in the next game. Bookings are wiped out after the quarter-finals.
Guehi’s absence from a potential meeting with Switzerland in the last eight also gives Southgate a defensive headache.
Joe Gomez, Lewis Dunk and Ezri Konsa could all deputise for Guehi but the trio have not played any minutes in Germany so far.
