England vs New Zealand – Cricket World Cup LIVE: Follow all the action as Eoin Morgan’s men look to build on India win and seal semi-final spot

  • England will earn a World Cup semi-final place with a win over New Zealand
  • If they lose, Eoin Morgan’s men will need Bangladesh to defeat Pakistan
  • The Kiwis are not yet guaranteed a spot in the last four despite sitting third
  • Mark Wood believes England are back on track after beating India on Sunday

England face New Zealand knowing victory will guarantee them a World Cup semi-final spot after they returned to form against India on Sunday.

Eoin Morgan’s men could still reach the last four if they suffer defeat against the Kiwis at the Riverside Ground, but they would need Bangladesh to beat fifth-placed Pakistan on Friday.

New Zealand are third – one place above England – in the table, but are not yet assured of a place in the knockout stage of the competition.

England paceman Mark Wood is confident the pre-tournament favourites are back on track after Sunday’s crunch win over India at Edgbaston.

‘(We had) Two really disappointing results,’ Wood said.

‘To come across what feels like a crunch game against a huge nation and to put in a big performance was really pleasing. It puts us back on track and momentum is back with us a bit.

‘The whole World Cup has felt a bit different. We spoke about that before the tournament, the tag of being favourites hasn’t been daunting or anything but it has felt different. The first game, I wasn’t playing but it still felt different for me.

‘We had a meeting a couple of days before the India game, sort of cleared the air, had a real honest chat about the things that have served us well, some values and things like that.’
