Referee Michael Oliver has been criticised by fans for disallowing Nico Schlotterbeck’s goal for Germany against Switzerland at Euro 2024.

Schlotterbeck thought he had given Germany the lead with a header in the early stages of the last-16 clash.

However, the goal was subsequently ruled out for a foul by Joshua Kimmich.

Fans were quick to bemoan decisions made by English officials again, especially after Anthony Taylor and Stuart Attwell were criticised for taking too long to disallow Xavi Simons’ goal for the Netherlands against France.

Commenting on Oliver’s decision to rule out Germany’s goal, Mark Goldbridge wrote: ‘I can’t see how that’s been disallowed tbf….English ref again’.

However, Oliver did receive some support, with some users believing that he made the correct call in disallowing the goal.

One user wrote: ‘Good decision if im honest, Kimmich spots the Danish player and steps into him… you cant do that’.

Another user stated that Kimmich deserved to be penalised. They wrote: ‘Yeah that’s a foul for me, Kimmich only has eyes for Skov Olsen there, couldn’t wait to foul him!’.

In addition, another user wrote: ‘Definite foul from Kimmich. You can’t pick like that’.

Another user added that it was a ‘clear foul’. They wrote: ‘Kimmich looked to see the defender before blocking him following Schlotterbeck. Clear foul.’
