A stolen tiny house has been spotted in the Queensland town of Hervey Bay; more than 14,000kms from where it was robbed in Canberra just 36 hours prior.
Owned by ACT company, Smartdeck, the house was to be used as a promotional vehicle at the upcoming Canberra Home and Leisure Show next month.
But the brazen thief has shown no signs of slowing down, having high-tailed the tow-home across the country since stealing it from the business site on Sunday night.
A stolen tiny house worth $20,000 has been spotted in the Queensland town of Hervey Bay; more than 14,000kms from where it was taken from in Canberra on Sunday night just 36 hours prior
Footage obtained by a nearby business’s CCTV camera shows the burglar dragging the home down the street and breaking the trailer’s wheel clamp in the process.
It’s believed the getaway vehicle was a silver Ford Falcon.
Smartdeck Co-owner Julie Bray shared a post to her Facebook on Monday, pleading for assistance in locating the lost house.
‘We knew it was good, but didn’t think someone would steal it from us,’ she wrote.
‘This tiny house (our promo vehicle) was stolen overnight from outside the Smartdeck office in Kemble Court, Mitchell, ACT.’
‘It has been spotted in southern Queensland by a couple of people, less than 24 hours after it was stolen from Canberra! Please share this with anyone you know in Queensland! THANKS!!!’.
The tiny house, which is worth $20,000, was spotted being towed by what appeared to be a white car through a sports ground in Kilkivan early Tuesday morning.
‘Never seen one before till this morning, an hour ago parked in a park in Kilkevin QLD an thought strange caravan,’ a man commented beneath Julie’s post.
They added that another person claimed to see the unique living space later that afternoon in Gympie.
The brazen theft has high-tailed the tow-home across the country since stealing it, but multiple people have reported sightings along the way
Ms Bray said the last she’d heard was that the beloved trailer home was spotted being towed through Hervey Bay around 2.15pm Tuesday.
She said the company had only owned the custom-built home about a year and were preparing to install plumping ahead of its debut at the upcoming leisure show.
The decking contractor and building company has offered a $1,000 reward for its tiny house’s safe return.
Speculation over the identity of the vehicle has dominated discussion, with one eagle eyed commenter suggesting it could have been a taxi.
‘Julie I’ve just seen the ABC security camera footage -it looks like it was stolen by a taxi (or possibly some sort of security or similar vehicle).’
They added: ‘There was a passenger wearing a cap on the drivers seat, looks as though he or she was bending down over the dash board looking out the window at the point they drive past.’
‘Also there appears to be a logo on the side, possibly striping pattern on the bonnet as well. Oh and it seems to have hub cabs rather than rims.’
Ms Bray said the company had been overwhelmed with public support and wanted to thank people for continuing to post their sightings on Facebook.
