Erik ten Hag given double injury boost as two Man United stars return to training ahead of their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace

Erik ten Hag received a double boost on Wednesday as he welcomed two first team stars back to Manchester United training.

The Red Devils were all smiles at their Carrington training ground after thumping Barnsley 7-0 in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford a night prior.

Having endured an uneasy start to the campaign, the United boss selected a strong line-up for the meeting of the League One side, despite missing several regulars due to injury.

Thankfully for the Dutchman, he could have at least two of their number return to action in short order following the inclusion of Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount in their most recent session.

Mount began the season well and started the first two Premier League games against Fulham and Brighton before he was withdrawn at half-time against the Seagulls with a hamstring problem.

The 25-year-old made just 20 appearances in his first season at United – including five Premier League starts – following a £60million move from Chelsea mainly due to a calf injury which kept him out of action for four months.

Hojlund, meanwhile, is yet to feature for the side in a competitive fixture this term after limping out of a pre-season clash against Arsenal in August.

The Denmark international also picked up a hamstring injury.

The game against the Gunners also saw summer signing Leny Yoro pick up a foot injury which is expected to rule him out until November.

Ten Hag’s side return to Premier League action on Saturday evening when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Tuesday night’s League Cup win saw several players receive much-needed confidence boosts.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho both scored a brace, while Antony also got the scoresheet thanks to a successfully converted spot-kick.

United go into the fixture off the back of a comfortable 3-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s last week.
