Estranged husband of missing Connecticut mother claims his girlfriend has an alibi for him

The estranged husband of missing Connecticut mother Jennifer Dulos insists that he has an alibi for his whereabouts the morning she disappeared.

The New Canaan mother-of-five Jennifer Dulos vanished on May 24 after dropping her kids off at school.

Her husband Fotis Dulos, 51, and his girlfriend Michelle Troconis, 44, have been charged with tampering evidence and hindering prosecution in the case. They’ve pleaded not guilty and are out on bail.

However, Dulos insists that Troconis has an alibi to explain where he was that morning and her testimony can help his defense.

On Thursday Fotis's lawyer released a statement pleading for charges to be dropped on Troconis so she can testify in his defense

His lawyer Norm Pattis urged the state to drop the charges against Michelle so she can testify in Fotis’ defense.

‘Michelle provides Fotis a complete alibi for the morning of Ms. Dulos’ disappearance. Yet most likely she will not testify as along as the state presses its meritless claims against her,’  Pattis said in a statement on Thursday.

‘We are calling on the state to drop the charges against Michelle so that she is able to testify in Fotis’ defense. We’re asking that the charges against her be dropped so that she can feel free to testify without fearing the consequences,’ Pattis added.

However, a lawyer for Troconis filed a motion requesting Dulos be prohibited from contacting her on Tuesday saying Fotis’ defense attorney has made comments to protect his client at  Troconis’ expense.

On the evening of May 24, police said they have surveillance footage of the Ford Raptor being driven by a man resembling Fotis Dulos, with a woman, resembling Michelle Troconis, in the passenger seat.

Dulos was reportedly seen dropping at least two garbage bags filled with bloody clothes, towels and sponges into garbage cans on Albany Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut.

Police seized those items and found that the blood matched Jennifer Dulos.

In her home, police found what they determined to be blood and thought he case is deemed a missing persons case, investigators she was the victim of a ‘serious physical assault’.

Jennifer and Fotis were going through a contentious divorce and custody battle at the time of her disappearance, where she had claimed in court filings that she and her children were afraid of her husband.

While Dulos and Troconis are out on bond, they’re required to wear a GPS monitoring devices and stay within the state of Connecticut.

On Monday Dulos theorized that Jennifer may have staged her disappearance like the character in the book Gone Girl, adding she wrote a ‘very dark 500-page plus novel’.

However a spokesperson for Jennifer’s family disputed the account as ‘false and irresponsible allegations’, adding that the book Jennifer wrote was completed before Gone Girl and was not a mystery.

‘Evidence shows that Jennifer was the victim of a violent attack in her New Canaan home. As of today, she has been missing for a month,’ her family and friends said in a statement released Monday.

‘This is not fiction or a movie. This is real life, as experienced every single day by Jennifer’s five young children, her family, and her friends. We are heartbroken. Jennifer is not here to protect her children, and these false and irresponsible allegations hurt the children now and into the future,’ the family added.

Troconis is due back in court on July 18 and Fotis Dulos on August 2.
