Euro 2020: Are you SURE that’s Jurgen? ITV reporter duped by Klopp lookalike on Lorraine Kelly

ITV reporter is hilariously duped by a Jurgen Klopp lookalike on Lorraine, posing for a photo with him and telling the nation the Liverpool boss had been sitting on fans’ shoulders and drinking cans of beer at Wembley

An ITV presenter was left red-faced after being duped into believing that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was soaking up the atmosphere on Wembley Way during England’s win over Germany on Tuesday.

Second-half goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane saw Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions seal a famous victory over their old rivals to book their place in the quarter final of Euro 2020.

A host of famous faces were in attendance at the national stadium for the last-16 tie, with Prince William, Prince George, the Duchess of Cambridge, David Beckham and Ed Sheeran part of the 40,000-strong crowd for the mammoth clash.

And fans were left in stitches as a lookalike of German coach Klopp, dressed fully in Liverpool training kit, was spotted outside Wembley on the shoulders of England fans amid a boisterous atmosphere.

However, ITV reporter Jonathan Swain failed to realise that the figure was not the Reds boss, and proudly told Lorraine Kelly that he ‘caught up’ with Klopp before the game, saying the German was a ‘great sport’ and a ‘tremendous chap’.

‘As I was going into the stadium last night I caught up with Jurgen Klopp as well, the Liverpool manager, of course he is German,’ he said on Wednesday morning.

‘He was a great sport yesterday chatting to many of the England fans as well and even after the match he was on the shoulders of some England supporters drinking a can of beer just here on Wembley Way. What a tremendous chap he is.’

Swain also shared a selfie of himself with the Klopp lookalike from inside Wembley Stadium with the caption: ‘I think I might be alright for match commentary’.

Fans were quick to remind the ITV presenter that he was mistaken, although it appears he did not get the memo before going on air this morning.

England fans will be looking ahead to Saturday’s huge quarter final game against Ukraine as Southgate prepares to take his side away from Wembley for the first time in the tournament.

The Wembley heroes travel to Rome for the game against Ukraine, and will return to the English capital for a semi-final against either Denmark or the Czech Republic if they see off Andriy Shevchenko’s World No 24-ranked side.

‘The players were immense right the way through the team – the fans were behind every challenge, every time we pressed the ball, every run. The energy in the stadium was incredible.

‘So to send them home like that…to know so many millions of people can have that enjoyment is very special.

‘The level of performance was really important – we were playing a team with four World Cup winners and a manager who has had an incredible career.

‘We know there has always been questions about us against big nations – we knew they would dictate certain parts of the game. We will always have passion and heart but what pleased me the most was we played with brains.

‘Today is a big result – these players keep writing history and we’ve got the chance again. We’ve only made one European Championship semi final – so have the chance to do something special.

‘What this group of players has been able to do is give a lot of people some very happy memories – this is another afternoon where we’ve made a bit of history, we’ve done a bit of that over the last four years.

‘The players don’t need to feel the burden of the past – it’s a fresh outlook for them. What they can do is change all that and have the mindset of it being a challenge rather than being fear.

‘They took that challenge on today and played in that way – that’s what we have to continue doing.’
