England are in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 after a momentous 2-0 victory over Germany at Wembley last week and Gareth Southgate’s men have a real shot of reaching the final.
The Three Lions will first have to navigate a way past Ukraine in the quarter-final in Rome on Saturday, with Andriy Shevchenko’s side a real banana skin. Victory in the Italian capital will bring Gareth Southgate’s men back to home soil for a potential semi-final against either Czech Republic or Denmark.
After a number of exciting performances in that win over Germany – with both Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane on target – Sportsmail’s CHRIS SUTTON gives his verdict on the the two likely line-ups going into this huge clash.
England are hoping to march on to the Euro 2020 semi-finals with a win over Ukraine in Rome
ENGLAND (4-2-3-1)
JORDAN PICKFORD 9
The only goalkeeper with four clean sheets at this tournament. He stopped Germany from scoring and deserves the praise he is getting.
KYLE WALKER 8
Walker’s speed in his recovery run when Thomas Muller broke through for Germany was frightening. He is one of the Euros’ fastest players.
JOHN STONES 8
Has made the most passes of any England player at Euro 2020 — with a 96 per cent passing accuracy to boot. Outstanding centre back.
John Stones has been outstanding at Euro 2020, making the most passes for England
HARRY MAGUIRE 8
Any German balls into the English box were beaten away expertly by Maguire. The Manchester United man gives you that distinct sense of security.
LUKE SHAW 8
Shaw and Grealish were on the same wavelength against Germany. It would be nice to see more of that chemistry down the left against Ukraine.
DECLAN RICE 8
Rice was on a yellow from the eighth minute against Germany but did not shy away from doing his job. He just did it smartly.
KALVIN PHILLIPS 8
Phillips regained possession 11 times against Germany — the most by an England player in a Euros match since Tony Adams in ’96. He’s all-action.
England look better when Mason Mount plays in midfield due to his confidence on the ball
JADON SANCHO 6
He’s had only six minutes against the Czechs, but now there are whispers that Manchester United’s new signing will start. Take your chance, Sancho!
MASON MOUNT 7
Mount can receive possession on the half-turn and move it up the pitch and England always look better with him in midfield.
RAHEEM STERLING 8
He has got a taste for goals and he is winning us games. Super Sterling has silenced his doubters and at this point he is pretty much undroppable.
HARRY KANE 6
Alan Shearer went on a goal-laden run after ending his drought before Euro 96. Kane can do the same. He remains England’s talisman.
TOTAL: 84 OUT OF 110
Simply put, Raheem Sterling is winning England games and is pretty much undroppable
Harry Kane can go on a goalscoring run now for England after ending his drought vs Germany
UKRAINE (3-5-2)
HEORHIY BUSHCHAN 7
The Dynamo Kiev player has been one of Euro 2020’s busier goalkeepers, making smart saves. He is really growing into his role as Ukraine’s No 1.
ILLYA ZABARNYI 7
He is 18, composed, assured and linked with clubs in England. Now he can test his talent against some of the Premier League’s top stars.
SERHIY KRYVTSOV 6
Shakhtar Donetsk’s no-nonsense centre back. The good news for England is Kryvtsov lacks pace and is prone to making an error or two.
Mykola Matviyenko has made some impressive ball recoveries for Ukraine at Euro 2020
MYKOLA MATVIYENKO 7
Only one other player has recovered the ball more often than Matviyenko at this tournament. He is an assured presence on the left of a back three.
OLEKSANDR KARABAYEV 7
Ukraine’s fastest player and he is not shy in getting forward and firing balls into the box. England need to beware the threat of Karavayev.
SERHIY SYDORCHUK 6
Dynamo Kiev captain who will need to keep his cool in Rome as he has a reputation as something of a hot-head in midfield.
TARAS STEPANENKO 6
This hard man loves a challenge. Shakhtar’s deep-lying midfielder will be disciplined and provide protection. He will leave the roaming to others.
MYKOLA SHAPARENKO 6
Lovely cross-field ball in the build-up to Zinchenko’s goal in the last-16 win against Sweden. The 22-year-old is a tidy player in midfield.
OLEKSANDR ZINCHENKO 7
Finally used at left wing back against Sweden and that is his best position. Good battle against his Man City colleague Walker awaits down the wing.
England fans know the threat Zinchenko carries down the left for Man City as he prepares to face his team-mate Kyle Walker
ANDRIY YARMOLENKO 8
Ukraine’s best player and biggest threat at the Euros, despite hardly featuring for West Ham last season, starting only one league game.
ROMAN YAREMCHUK 6
Ukraine’s top scorer in qualifying. Yaremchuk is 6ft 3in, mobile and will need to be his team’s focal point to get Ukraine up the pitch.

SPARES
KIERAN TRIPPIER 6
He’s played left back, and right wing back. England’s manager knows that wherever he needs him, he can count on the experienced Trippier.
BEN CHILWELL 6
His last appearance for club or country was in the Champions League final. Now’s his time to make his mark on Euro 2020.
REECE JAMES 6
His only other start was against Scotland when he didn’t get forward as much as he does for Chelsea. Now he’s set for another chance.
JORDAN HENDERSON 6
Two substitute appearances eased him in. Now he’s ready to start for England. With Rice and Phillips on yellows and risking suspension, he comes in.
PHIL FODEN 6
He missed the last two games but now England can unleash Foden. The Ukrainians will be defensive but Foden can create chances in tight spaces.
RUSLAN MALINOVSKYI 6
Surprisingly benched against Sweden but he was influential after being brought on, so should be returning to the starting line-up against England.
