Eva Mendes defends partner Ryan Gosling over Academy Award nom for Barbie – as she praises him for taking his ‘now iconic character Ken all the way to the Oscars’

Eva Mendes has defended her partner Ryan Gosling after he received an Academy Award nomination for his role as Ken in Barbie.

Mendes posted a gushing message of Gosling to her Instagram on Wednesday, describing just how proud he was she recalled the ‘Not My Ken’ jeering he endured in the lead-up to Barbie’s release.

Gosling has since been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role – but controversially, lead star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig failed to receive individual nods.

‘So proud of my man,’ Eva posted to Instagram. ‘So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars. So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie.’
