Evan Blass tweets photo of Blackberry ‘Motion’ smartphone

In the hopes of keeping up with its rivals, including Apple and Google, Blackberry appears to be working on a new all-touchscreen device.

A well-respected leaker has posted a photo of what he calls the ‘BlackBerry Motion’ smartphone.

While BlackBerry is yet to confirm the rumours, a spokesperson for TCL – the firm behind the smartphone – has previously said that the firm will reveal a new device this month.

Moving away from Blackberry’s signature keyboard, the device appears to have an all-touchscreen display.

Blackberry is yet to confirm the name of the device, but in August, Francois Mahieu, head of global sales at TCL, said that a new device would launch this month.

The only detail confirmed by Mr Mahieu is that the smartphone will be water resistant, which he told Engadget.

Other rumours have been circulating over the last few months, although these are yet to be confirmed.

The smartphone is likely to feature a 1920×1080 display, 4GB of RAM, a 4,000 mAh battery, and a Snapdragon 625 or 626 processor.

The new device will follow Blackberry's KEYone Android handset, which was revealed in May. The KEYone boasts a QWERTY keyboard alongside a touchscreen display and costs $549.99 (£428.21)

Rumours also suggest that the smartphone will have a home button with a fingerprint scanner – a feature that appears to be confirmed in Mr Blass’ photo.
